rest easy, Edvard Munch

Two years after the theft, the masterpiece has finally been recovered.

And here I was thinking it was going to be lost forever. Rest easy now, sir Munch.

The Tao of Backup

For those of you with important data, such as a thesis paper or dissertation, don't forget the virtues of backing up!

are you kidding me?!?

Wow, just wow. Finished two seasons worth of quality television right before school starts. Let's just hope I devote that kind of dedication to my academics!

pico

Looks like I don't need to get that NoteTaker Wallet after all. Thanks to my friend Matt for pointing me in the direction of the PicoPad - the cost effective solution to recording notes on the go.

Just picked it up today, and I'm already loving it!

That's Amore

Anybody hugged the walls of their department lately and uttered softly the words, "I love you"?

Anyone? No?

Yeah... uh, me neither.

what the Frick!

Finally all setup and running in the new place. How I've survived without the Internet all this time is beyond me, but lucky for me I had other pressing matters to attend to.

Only a bit of tidying up around the new place before I head out the door to fully enjoy all that D.C. has to offer. I'm also thinking of making a few day trips to my favorite cities such as New York and Boston.

While I'm in New York I will definitely have to stop by the Frick. Not only is it a fun name to say, but the collection is frickin' amazing and invaluable as a research tool. In fact, the Frick Art Reference Library has proven to be one of the leading sites for provenance research.

Hmm, August 19th. Looks like les feuilles mortes will be rolling in soon, characteristic of my favorite season of the year! Autumn ushers in beautiful visuals as well as sounds, not to mention some of the best Holidays around! I always get excited at this time of the year, can't wait to see what Fall on this side of the country is like.

You've been bluf'd

Useless trivia is a sinfully delicious indulgence. In case you haven't noticed, there's a new addition to my sidebar, which randomly generates a fun trivia question every time you visit this page or hit the "refresh" button. It can be quite addictive, so careful not to wear out your F5 button.

Not much to write for the time being, since I'm smack in the middle of relocating across the country. Might not be writing for awhile, for that matter...until the Internet is properly up and running in the new place.

Where will I gather my thoughts now?? Perhaps that NoteTaker Wallet might be a worthy investment after all...

what's a "Moh-gnat"?

Just got back from the “Monet in Normandy Exhibition and WOW was it packed. It’s shocking because it’s only a Tuesday, yet the Legion of Honor was more crowded than most weekends. The exhibition itself, was somewhat underwhelming. I think my expectations were high, and of course the actual show fell short of those expectations. Still, events like these are always welcome as they simply arrest the community in no other way imaginable. The sheer amount of attendees, whether they be specialists or the casual art aficionado, was proof enough that these special exhibitions stir up quite a bacchanal.

Yes, it was as if Monet was the personification of Bacchus himself and drenched the art lovers with a sweet Chianti that Hannibal Lecter would not hesitate to savor with some fava beans. No, I can't guarantee the absence of my corny usage of proverbial movie quotes in the future.

Anyways, I digress. The mention of specialists brings to attention this particular man, whom I now quote verbatim, “these people don’t see these artworks like we do, they probably just think it’s pretty-looking”. Damn, here I thought I was the arrogant, pretentious art historian prick. Apparently I have been deposed! And to have the audacity to say such a thing out loud in a crowded room…

I was half expecting him to be lynched.

Of course, I’m not really an arrogant, pretentious prick. I just tend to think I come across as one sometimes… because it’s funny.

HOT, HOT, HOT!!

I think the following link is one of the funniest things related to higher education that I've ever seen. Apparently this has been floating around the educational community and it has just been bestowed upon me today. This is not an old video, in fact it was created just last year. Worst attempt at a hip recruitment video evar. Yes, this video warrants "ever" with an "a".

You have to wonder, what the hell was going through the minds of the fine folks at ASU when they created this video; nay, the song. The accompanied music can only be described as...

shit.

Yep, I also use colloquial vernacular when referring to a steaming pile of dog feces; this recruitment video deserves as much.
